Family
photoshoot prep

What to wear and how to coordinate outfits for the whole family?

How to prepare kids (including babies)?

Why sleep, snacks, mood, and favorite toys matter?

A family photoshoot is not just about beautiful pictures, but also about the special time you spend together. To make the experience easy, fun, and stress-free, it’s important to plan a few things in advance.

I’m sharing useful tips from my experience as a family photographer:

Outfits for the whole family: harmony is the key to beauty

harmonious family look
"When choosing outfits, focus not on matching clothes but on a cohesive style and color palette."

Here are a few recommendations:
  • Pick 2−3 base colors that complement each other (for example, beige, blush, olive).
  • Avoid loud prints and logos — they distract attention.
  • Clothing should be comfortable and appropriate for the season.
  • Add texture: linen, knitwear, denim, cotton — these look more "alive" in photos than synthetic fabrics.
  • Shoes are important too! It’s best to avoid sneakers with neon soles unless they are part of the look.
If you’re unsure, feel free to send me your outfit options — I’ll help you choose the best combinations.

How to prepare children?

"Children can sense their parents' mood. The calmer you are, the more relaxed and comfortable the little ones will feel."

  • Explain the photoshoot to your child in a playful way. You can say it’s a "fun walk with a photographer."
  • Don’t expect perfect behavior — it’s better to let them be themselves.
  • Bring a change of clothes just in case of "unexpected situations" (especially important for little kids).
  • Allow them to bring their favorite toy — it helps them feel confident and can naturally fit into the photos.

Little tricks: mood, sleep & snacks

"The most important thing is not to turn the photoshoot into a chore. When everyone is in a good mood and relaxed, the photos turn out the most genuine and heartwarming."

  • Sleep matters! Try to schedule the session when your child is well-rested — usually in the morning or after a nap.
  • Avoid packing the hours before the shoot with errands or long outings.
  • Bring a light snack and some water — just in case someone gets a bit hungry.
A photoshoot isn’t about being "perfect," it’s about capturing real emotions. Don’t stress if your little one won’t sit still or look at the camera — my job is to catch those genuine moments that become your family’s most treasured memories.
